A DC Material Handler is responsible for manually moving and handling freight/merchandise within the Distribution Center. Routine duties performed by the DC Material Handler are done so without the assistance of technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
|
- Use proper lifting and operating procedures to manually lift, stack, and/or transport cartons using pallets, carts, and/or conveyors
|
- Assemble carton contents or build pallets, as shown on monitor if available, by identifying and matching like carton UPCs so outer labels are facing outwards
|
- Separate and organize freight by vendor name, purchase order, SKU and/or store number
|
- Safely utilize manually operated equipment (i.e. pallet jack, rolling conveyor, pick cart, totes, or hand truck) to transport cartons or other items by means of pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying
|
- Responsible for the proper handling and use of all Company owned property, tools, and equipment
|
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environment
|
- Conducts duties in compliance with OSHA safety standards and location specific policies, paying special attention to pedestrian/equipment traffic.
|
- Promote safety at all times and report safety violations to the appropriate DC Lead, Supervisor, and/or Area Manager.
|
- Communicates problems/concerns to the appropriate DC Lead, Supervisor, and/or Area Manager.
|
- Other duties as assigned by leadership, including those requiring the use of manual DC equipment, housekeeping tools, and/or manually moving product which the associate is trained and skilled to perform.
|
- Cross-train to perform one or more functions within multiple departments to assist within other areas based on the needs of the department, facility, and Company
|
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to support workload requirements
Required Skills:
|
- Frequent bending, lifting, walking, pushing, pulling of freight, standing for long periods of time
|
- Ability to read and recognize applicable numbers and directives, including safety rules, operating instructions, racking locations, and procedural documents
|
- Able to follow policies and procedures
|
- Ability to perform duties independently, and as part of a team, with minimal supervision or guidance
|
Experience:
|
- One or more years of warehouse, distribution, logistics, or fulfillment experience helpful but not required
Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Knowledgeable and skilled with using a RF scanner
|
- Use of non-motorized equipment used within the distribution center
|
- Prior knowledge of warehouse management system (WMS) functions
|
- Prior experience working within an automated conveyor-based operation
|

Education:
|
- High school diploma or equivalent.
