General Summary

 

With guidance from the DC Area Manager(s), the DC Area Supervisor is responsible for supervising and assisting with the management of one or more department's activities, and when necessary across shifts. Whether on the operating floor or in an office setting, the DC Area Supervisor is required to follow all company policies while guiding direct reports toward meeting or exceeding established daily objectives. S/he works with the Management Team and individual contributors across departments to identify opportunities for process improvement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for the communication, oversight, execution, and exceptions management of area activities to subordinates across a department and/or shift (Receiving, Case Pick/Putaway, Case Loops, Order Processing, Replenishment, Returns, Shipping, Ship Sort, Inventory Control, Value Added Services, Wave Management).
  • Promote professional growth, adherence to Company policies, and routine achievement of performance standards by providing hands-on coaching and training to direct reports.
  • Collaborate with an Area Manager or the Management Team to document issues, incidents, or accomplishments of direct reports; providing constructive and/or positive input for performance reviews, coaching sessions, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Extensive WMS utilization to track product movement, research and resolve exceptions, and ensure processes are "closed out".
  • Communicate and collaborate clearly and efficiently with various internal and external coworkers, superiors, and customers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or streamline existing processes, and collaborate cross-functionally on changes, improvements, and/or resolutions.
  • Responsible for addressing/ administering discipline or coaching of direct reports and site associates under the guidance of the appropriate leader
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to support workload requirements
  • Conducts duties in compliance with OSHA safety standards and location specific policies, paying special attention to pedestrian/equipment traffic
  • Promotes safety at all times, and communicates and addresses problems/concerns, especially regarding safety, security, building control, or personnel, accordingly
  • Responsible for the proper handling and safe use of all Company owned property, tools, and equipment, including PPE, power equipment, voice equipment, etc.
  • Cross-train to perform one or more functions within assigned department and operation to assist within other areas in support of department, facility, and Company success.
  • Other duties as instructed by leadership which the associate is trained and skilled to perform

 

Required Skills:

 

  • Working knowledge of distribution related processes and best practices.
  • Prior experience with appropriate systems strongly desired, including but not limited to WMS, automation, conveyor, unit sortation, shrink tunnels, auto labeling, collaborative mobile robots (CMR), automated mobile robots (AMR), Cubiscan, ProGlove, put-to-light
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of proper business communication etiquette, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability and eagerness to work as part of a team, as well as lead others.
  • Established comfort level with handling conflict, pressure, and uncertainty.
  • Willingness to learn, be mentored, and embrace leadership development.
  • Promote a team atmosphere to ensure deadlines are met
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, detail, follow-up, and interpersonal skills.

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of leadership experience supervising full-time/direct and/or staffing agency associates, preferably in a distribution center environment
  • Prior hands-on experience with Warehouse Management System(s) --WMS-- required
  • Previous experience with specific equipment actively utilized within the facility:
    • RF Scanner
    • Vocollect Voice Headset
    • Manual Palletjack
    • Crown Equipment

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Previous experience with specific systems actively utilized within the facility:
    • HighJump
    • AS400
    • UPS CampusShip
  • Previous experience within a highly automated facility

 

Education

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Some college experience is preferred
