Production & Traffic Specialist

General Summary:

The Print Production & Traffic Specialist is responsibilities include trafficking and print production operations for marketing collateral that supports in-store signage and communication, handouts, gift cards, promotional products and home office requests.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Owns and Coordinates the project & production workflow of DSW printed materials (in-store signage and communication pieces, handouts, gift cards, promotional products, home office requests) through the marketing request management system (Workfront) to meet established delivery timelines and meet quality standards
  • Supports the production workflow of DSW direct mail to meet at-home delivery dates and meet quality specs.
  • Responsible for defining project task requirements, priorities, dependencies, timelines and resources
  • Promotes smooth workflow and communication between stakeholders – mediating redirects and workload conversations
  • Identifies project concerns, conflicts and delays, and proactively facilitate conversations between internal groups to discuss and resolve those concerns, appropriately escalate to manager as needed
  • Initiates requests for competitive bids and negotiates with vendors to perform print jobs
  • Utilizes Workfront tool to input projects, manage and track job status reports, contact vendors to obtain tracking information and follow-up on delivery status as necessary
  • Accountable for the data entry and submission of all job orders to the procurement team to be entered into the purchase order management system
  • Reviews artwork, proofs and attend press checks, as needed, to provide assurance of print quality
  • Provides insight into printing and production processes for internal business partners
  • Supports creative production with the final art release of print jobs to vendors
  • Serves as the key point person to distribute project communications to all team members and stakeholders.
  • Coordinates print production schedules with outside print vendors to ensure production schedules are upheld and meet business deadlines
  • Provides print production recommendations/solutions to members of visual team, Customer Engagement team, CRM team, and/or creative team while meeting budget requirements and delivery deadlines
  • Provides FedEx shipping direction to vendors, explores shipping options for multiple component/oversized jobs and record projected expenses to ensure shipping budget is maintained
  • Continually recommend workflow and process improvements and investigate new sources, materials and processes for efficiencies and cost savings
  • Backs up Senior Manager, Print Production and other Traffic Team Members
  • Performs duties and tasks relevant to the role as assigned by Sr Manager, Print Production and Sr Manager, Marketing Operations
  • Supports company strategies, goals and objectives
  • Must comply to all policies, procedures, and other communicated standards of Designer Brands Inc and DSW

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • 3+ years previous experience in a marketing print and retail environment
  • Committed, independent, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Experience with marketing resource management tools and Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented and capable of juggling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage complete priorities
  • Self-motivated and can adjust goals according to workload
  • Strong problem solver
  • Effective negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Energetic, responsible and proactive with a high aptitude for creative workflow and client communication
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to identify best practices/efficiencies/automations
  • Clear understanding of printing processes and techniques
  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of the job


  • Print Production: 3+ years (preferred)



  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience preferred
