Job title: Payroll Administrator

General Summary:  The Payroll Administrator assists with the bi-weekly payroll processing for a large volume of associates in a multi-state environment. This is a team-oriented roll that will work closely with payroll teammates and HR partners to audit and accurately resolve payroll processing output.

Reports to: Payroll Manager 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform data entry and peer review of payroll data, including but not limited to, one-time payments, retroactive payments, rate changes, terminations, new hires, LOA, garnishments, tax changes, direct deposits, pay cards and one-time deductions. 
  • Coordinate with HR and stores on various corrections and changes for final calculation of payroll.
  • Create and generate reports and audit processes to assist the team with payroll process audit optimization.
  • Perform verification and reconciliation tasks according to department checks and balances and investigate audit discrepancies.
  • Receive and respond to pay related inquiries using discretion & effective oral and written communication with associates, internal business partners, vendors, and outside agencies.
  • Assist with completion of unemployment claims responses through the claims management system.
  • Assist with employment and wage verification request.
  • Identify and assist in implementation of appropriate ongoing business process efficiencies to improve payroll operations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager.

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to research and interpret laws & regulations related to payroll.
  • Knowledge of current payroll methodologies, best practices and processes, preferably with a multi-state background.
  • Proven ability to create and generates complex reports in HR and timekeeping systems and translate those outputs in Excel to support the audit of payroll processes.   
  • Accounting and math skills key to success in this role.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communicational skills to collaborate with internal team and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work in a team, as well as independently, in a time sensitive environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow-up on various payroll functions.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in multi-state payroll processing required
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ADP Enterprise or equivalent payroll processing software experience
