The Designer Brands IT team is a fast-paced team that thrives on challenges where we put the customer first and build solutions to support that sentiment.  The IT Digital Team is growing and knows no bounds as we have pivoted to a fully distributed remote team.  We are looking to fill multiple openings with the best talent on the market and are excited about the continued evolution of the team.

 

We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to help manage our digital platform which includes multiple websites, mobile applications, and integration services.  The team you will join is positioned for growth and looking for a strong, in-the-trenches leader to expand the team and foster existing talent.  If your background includes technical management of cross-functional engineering teams, this role may be a good fit for you.

 

As a Manager, Digital Applications Development, you will lead your team through the successful delivery of solutions to address our business needs.  You and your team will build solutions that make a tangible difference in our business processes and customer value delivery.  Driven by the importance of your business partners’ requests, you will be responsible for the intake, planning, and delivery of successful outcomes.  You are encouraged to be curious, collaborate and to turn ideas into solutions that will enhance and transform our customer experience.

 

You will be expected to balance the ongoing maintenance of systems prioritized alongside new development.  An important role of this position is to build strong relationships with IT and business partners.  Additionally, you will perform tasks including managing team capacity, encouraging growth through recruiting, communicating work performance, coaching, mentoring and team development.

 

Reports To: Sr. Manager, Digital Applications Development

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in architectural discussions and decision making with other leaders.
  • Build, manage, and continuously develop a high-performing staff of engineers and analysts contributing to the overall software development.
  • Guide design, development, and integration activities.
  • Communicate status and escalate issues to leadership in a clear and concise manner.
  • Implement technical solutions conforming with IT guiding principles.
  • Accountable for applications health and performance.
  • Perform analysis to assist with making data driven decisions.
  • Responsible for end-to-end vendor management.
  • Provide direct reports with well-defined job expectations, accurate and timely performance reviews, and continuous hands-on coaching and feedback.
  • Play a key role in the definition of the Solution Delivery Methodology.
  • Mentor and provide technical oversight and guidance to team members and cross-functional partners, improving their skills, knowledge of our systems, and their ability to get things done.

 

Required Skills:

  • Must have a background managing web and/or app technologies such as Angular, React, Vue, Swift, and/or Kotlin.
  • Working and prioritizing across relationships with support, services, product, and engineering teams.
  • Contributing and leading SDLC practices within an Agile environment ensuring application and system quality quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to take technical and/or business requirements and translate them into detailed blueprints to assist in creating technical requirements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • The role requires ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of identifying opportunities and creating efficiencies.
  • Understanding of a broad range of technologies, frameworks, and methodologies related to the SDLC.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how, when, and where to best utilize them.
  • Anticipate project risk and constraints and proactively work towards resolving them.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in solution design, implementation, and delivery.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role either as a direct people leader or leading development teams.
  • Experience leading multiple simultaneous projects and effectively managing the work.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Retail highly preferred

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or other relevant technical field or equivalent work experience
