Financial Analyst, Lease Accounting (Remote)
As a Financial Analyst, Lease Accounting on the property accounting team this role will primarily own the daily accounting operations and reporting activities for a portion of the company’s store fleet. Additionally, the financial analyst responsibilities include accurately accounting for Designer Brands Store Occupancy, Distribution Center Occupancy, Fulfillment Center Occupancy, and other lease accounting reporting in a fast-paced retail environment This position is responsible for partnering closely with the Designer Brands Real Estate, third party lease administrator, and FP&A teams to ensure lease related activity is accurately projected and accounted for in accordance with ASC 842. In addition, this role will also be responsible for assisting with various aspects of the company’s capital expenditure accounting process and reporting, as needed.
This position requires a detail-oriented individual with the ability to analyze significant volumes of financial information. Candidates must possess the ability to thrive in an environment of complex calculations/systems. The selected candidate will assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work and have excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks are required.
Reports To: Supervisor, Lease Accounting
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and process lease payments
- Month end close activities related to lease accounting and capital expenditures
- Track and reconcile contractual lease obligations to actual monthly lease payments
- Prepare month end journal entries and account reconciliations
- Review lease agreements and validate relevant deal terms have been abstracted accurately
- Review lease liability/amortization schedules against lease agreements for accuracy and coordinate with third party lease administrator regarding any corrections needed
- Prepare related Occupancy projections for assigned business cost centers
- Perform monthly analyses to ensure occupancy expenses are in line with projection/budget and understand and anticipate upcoming variances, as applicable
- Meet with business partners to align on accounting treatments for stores regarding tenant allowances, co-tenancy, late delivery fees, etc.
- Prepare consolidated lease disclosures for financial statements and related audit support
- Work with FP&A and the Designer Brands Real Estate team to align on accounting treatments for stores regarding tenant allowances, co-tenancy, late delivery fees, etc.
- Prepare/assist with ad hoc analyses as requested
- Assist as needed with various fixed asset accounting processes

- 2+ years of experience in Accounting
Preferred Qualifications:
- 842 Lease Accounting experience
- Public Accounting background
- CPA licensure
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
