The VP, Transportation & Logistics develops, directs and implements the DSW Inc.’s domestic and international transportation strategies.  This applies to DSW, Shoe Metro, ABG, Town Shoes and all direct to consumer.  Develops key partnerships with leading edge systems and 3rd party providers that will minimize expenses while maximizing service to our stores and customers worldwide.  Drives innovation and is proactive in pointing out opportunities for the business by leveraging the Supply Chain worldwide.  Develops and maintains a proactive customer service model that exceeds the expectations of our customers.  Pursues opportunities within the Supply Chain in order to improve customer satisfaction, retain customers, take market share, or improve the bottom line.  Provides support for all business units operating under DSW Inc.  Provides leadership and direction to management staff and associates and maximizes workforce utilization while promoting/fostering the DSW values. This position reports to the SVP, Distribution & Logistics and will have direct reports.

 

Transportation

  • Accountable for service to all customers and stores.
  • Accountable for global logistics and total flow of goods from vendors to stores and customers, including returns.
  • Drives innovation within the Supply Chain.
  • Leads efforts to find innovative ways or methods to use technology to increase / improve service and reduce expense.                                                                     
  • Partners with and coordinates closely with the Information Technology group and/or outside vendors to implement systems, enhancements and maintenance.
  • Partners and closely coordinates with functional heads of Store Operations, Digital Operations, Planning & Allocation and senior Merchants.
  • Develops transportation, logistics, and customer service strategies.
  • Develops and prepares annual operating budget and ensures compliance including CTPAT.  Achieves operating and financial goals and objectives.
  • Develops and implements global logistics network.
  • Develops key partnerships with 3rd party vendors, both existing and new, leading edge organizations.  Calculates return (ROI) and evaluates and recommends strategies for meeting increasing sales/volume/customer demands and timeliness/accuracy of shipments to stores and customers.
  • Develops and implements strategies for offering our customers a vast array of delivery options.
  • Uses data analytics to maximize service to customers and expense control.

  • Provides training and development programs designed to improve, enhance and/or maintain or exceed performance standards.  Works with Human Resources to implement training. 

 

Regulatory/Safety

  • Complies with all regulations with respect to DOT, OSHA, DOL and any other federal, state and local authority.
  • Develops and implements programs to provide a safe, clean work environment in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. Establishes safety programs designed to reduce risks and maintain or improve safety record. Effectively communicates, implements and reinforces programs to associates. 

 

Qualifications

Experience

  • 7-10 years transportation management role
  • Proven track record of finding unique solutions to problems
  • Proven ability to utilize data to improve the customer experience or reduce expense

Education

  • Minimum B.S. Degree in Business (prefer Logistics or Industrial Engineering major)  or equivalent experience
  • Masters in Logistics or MBA preferred
