Job title: Senior Manager, DevOps

We are looking for a Senior Manager, DevOps with a passion for creating teams that are more efficient and productive. This Senior Manager has the wisdom and knowhow to create a truly world-class DevOps team. Candidates should be hands-on, passionate, results-oriented, inventive technical leaders that will own, define, architect, build and integrate scalable environments, tools and processes. They should understand software development for large scale distributed services, how Operations and Application Development need to have a symbiotic relationship to thrive in a fast-paced environment, be eager to take on new responsibilities, and have a track record of delivering high quality, mission-critical systems.

As the leader of our DevOps team, you will be creating a talented and nimble group of highly technical engineers that will create innovative ways to enable developers to easily and quickly author high quality software. Successful candidates will be obsessed with operational excellence and will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of improving efficiency of the development process.

This position, under the direction of the Vice President, Infrastructure Operations & Security, will be responsible for delivering knowledge and experience of the DevOps domain, including production support and cloud service delivery as well as experience of CI/CD to direct a very dynamic development team. This position is responsible for exhibiting a solid understanding of cloud architecture and deployments, and experience in managing the DevOps engineers.


Reports To: Vice President, Infrastructure, Operations, & Security
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development teams to understand their vision and requirements
  • Work with peers and management to understand technical requirements, priorities and processes, and to consistently improve developer experience, process efficiency and infrastructure performance while providing 24X7 availability
  • Design, implement and roll out solutions that leverage integration of home-grown, open source and 3rd party solutions to provide a high-performing continuous delivery pipeline that fits with the development teams’ needs as well as Designer Brands’ long-term strategy
  • Provide strategic direction and continuously improve a delivery pipeline for developments team including source code repository, build solutions, continuous integration/delivery infrastructure, test frameworks, packaging/container and deployment tools
  • Establish processes and tools to maintain code base integrity, including validation rules, branch/merge processes, and adherence to security and compliance requirements
  • Investigate and recommend best practices for maintaining code quality, including development of code metrics, code review workflows, code coverage measurement and the efficient use of static and dynamic analysis
  • Influence and drive operational excellence best practices within the organization
  • Influence the team’s technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to the team’s priorities and approach. Make a significant contribution to team planning
  • Actively mentor junior DevOps team members and train experienced engineers, improving their skills, knowledge of our systems, and their ability to get things done!

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven experience working and prioritizing across relationships with support, services, product and engineering teams
  • Proven track record of managing Modern Cloud platforms in 24x7 setting
  • Manage and contribute and lead the DevOps team in writing automation covering our entire infrastructure and server footprint
  • Implement uniform best practices for DevOps across our applications in order to improve availability, security, transparency and incident response
  • Measure and report progress against targets for improvement in cited areas
  • Evolve infrastructure, server, deployment strategies and testing to support our goal of 100% up time and quick turnaround of deployments for the application development organization
  • Continuously improve our infrastructure to be easy to deploy, scalable, secure and fault tolerant
  • Drive the process in which our DevOps team operates and iterates/releases
  • Collaborate with architects, software engineers and service providers to improve software delivery, configuration, monitoring and operation
  • Respond to emergencies and build solutions drawing on your years of infrastructure experience
  • Proficiency in IaaS for cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP) and on-prem (VMWare, OpenStack, etc.) solutions

 

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 6+ years’ experience mentoring engineering teams and working in a leadership role
  • 3+ years’ specifically building/maturing/leading DevOps team.
  • Experience of managing high velocity workload in similar organizations, in SaaS setting
  • Experience of having conducted cloud migrations for legacy applications into Cloud
  • Experience of utilizing best of breed processes to improve day to day operations
  • Experience of working with software development organizations
  • Extensive experience with multi-vendor/OS environments (Microsoft, AIX, multiple Linux variants)
  • Experience with Configuration Management frameworks such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible
  • Solid experience with security protocols (SSL, SSH, SFTP, etc.)
  • Experience with containers stacks and orchestration such as (Docker, Docker-swarm, Kubernetes/K8S, Mesos, Rancher)
  • Experience with modern development tools such as Git, Mercurial, Jenkins, Gerrit, Crucible, Confluence, Jira, Bamboo.
  • Admin-level experience supporting and developing Linux and Microsoft-based environments
  • Admin-level experience in infrastructure and network (DNS, DHCP, NTP, LB, etc.)

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or 12+ years relevant work experience
