Preface: We are a team of 3 designers responsible for supporting all the digital experiences that full under the Designer Brands purview, namely DSW US & Canada, Shoe Company, Shoe Warehouse, and the Vince Camuto brands.  For each brand, we have to maintain and evolve their Dotcom, Native App, and Omni-channel presences.  As such, each of our team members has to be proficient in conducting various types of user research, producing refined wireframes and prototypes, producing and meticulously documenting final visually-styled designs, communicating designs to cross-functional partners, and collaborating with POs, BAs, and front-end engineers all to ensure that the total user experience meets all our business goals and provides value to our customers.  If you feel that your experience and skillset meets and/or exceeds these expectations, we’d really like to hear from.

 

General Summary: The Senior Product (UX) Designer will be responsible for helping our product team deliver world-class experiences and be able to clearly communicate ideas at a broad level to bring these experiences to life. The role will have responsibility for analysis of user needs, information design and layout, workflows and interactions, and detailed aesthetics for both written and visual content. The Senior Product (UX) Designer will work directly with Stakeholders, Product Owners, and Engineers to prioritize and specify features that will be a catalyst for delivering great design and positive business outcomes.

 

Reports to: Manager, User Experience

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and lead the design agenda
  • Keep an eye on the greater picture across the experience
  • Seek out and utilize data to make informed design decisions
  • Collaborate and build relationships within Marketing, Online Merchandising, IT, Analytics and Product teams
  • Inspire other designers, product owners, and engineers to deliver the best work of their careers.
  • Craft intuitive and shippable product experiences, leveraging DSW design standards, industry best practices and customer feedback
  • Produce design deliverables utilizing the Sketch app, InVision and/or other prototyping tools:
    • Detailed site maps, user & task flows, user journeys, page flows, taxonomies, etc.
    • Wireframes, annotations, and prototypes
    • Detail visuals & mockups
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews for all necessary features
  • Evaluate competitor and industry websites to provide a meaningful analysis of findings
  • Prioritize, plan and help conduct user research, including user interviews, usability testing, task analysis and contextual inquiry.

  • Support and influence product roadmap planning and prioritization
  • Establish design acceptance criteria for features and ensure that the implementation meets design standards.
  • Collaborate closely with agile teams to work through design details during the development of code.

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Communication and presentation skills with ability to clearly present work and articulate the rationale for decisions that led to It with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Confidence and self-motivation to drive forward projects that will improve the user’s experience
  • Proficient in using Sketch, InVision and other design tools.
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS.

 

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5+ years of design & research experience for consumers and consumer brands

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, IT, design, creative, communications, or related field
