Job Title: Online Merchandiser

 

General Summary: The primary focus of the Online Merchandiser is to drive demand through conversion, effective product positioning, data analysis & monitoring/optimizing the digital customer shopping experience with a category focus. This role is responsible for the product discovery experience to ensure that dsw.com customers are presented with relevant products. While historically this has been through manual curation, we are investing in a relevance and personalization road map that automates and improves this experience, requiring an analytical mind to manage these experiences in the future.

This role is responsible for driving digital engagement through well researched and collaborative planning, in depth analysis of customer shopping behavior, and execution of product and content features online that create a natural shopping experience.

 

Reports to: Senior Manager, Online Merchandising, Personalization & Future Initiatives

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Drive demand through conversion:
o    Develop & analyze digital merchandising strategies & tactics that align to overall ecommerce initiatives to maximize conversion and sales for specific categories on dsw.com
o    Determine site navigation & manage categories to support marketing/buying strategies, trends, web analytics, and on-site search data
o    Leverage insights to effectively decide short-term changes to digital touchpoints (sequencing, navigation, creative assets, and marketing activity) as well as long term changes to overall strategy
o    Drive conversion & demand by analyzing and optimizing path-to-product, page performance, category conversion, and top sellers
o    Responsible for category page experience - including merchandising sorts, content, filters & overall customer experience 
o    Identify merchandising opportunities to increase conversion & demand and optimize the overall customer experience 
o    Responsible for call-to-actions (CTA’s) for digital marketing assets by partnering with the Content and CRM teams

•    Reporting & Analysis:
o    Pro-actively analyzes the business to provide meaningful insights into performance - assessing category performance, customer interactions, and shopping behaviors through analysis from multiple data systems 
o    Present business insights, analysis & actions to senior leadership on a weekly basis
o    Utilize sales reporting & digital analytics to understand .com business trends 
o    Proficient business acumen in digital metrics to provide insight & make recommendations to buying & planning partners about assortment, collections, & how customers are interacting with the site, etc
o    Provide complex digital data in a digestible way for cross-functional partners & senior leadership
o    Monitor on-site search results & collaborate with On-site Search Analyst to optimize results to drive conversion
o    Partner with Analytics team to develop new digital reporting

•    Optimize:
o    Partner with digital content team & marketing to create a compelling product experience & optimize site content via marketing channels ((i.e. email, home page content, social) 
o    Complete analysis of key competitors & best-in class online retailers to understand emerging technologies & developments user experience, product presentation, path-to-product, and promotion strategies & execution 
o    Develop and define recommendations for site enhancements to improve the customer experience through content presentation, navigation and merchandising features by partnering with the Customer Experience Team
o    Partner with the Digital Optimization Analyst in the ideation of A/B Tests
o    Partner with UX designers & customer experience team to create compelling & engaging experiences to enhance the usability of the customers interacting with the site

•    Other:
o    Support company initiatives by taking the business lead on stretch assignments related to the growth of the digital business (added from AOM)
o    Act as a mentor for new hires
o    Provide back-up to support to the Associate Digital Merchandisiser (as needed)

 

Required Skills and Competencies: 

•    Proficiency in the utilization of site analysis tools (i.e.- Omniture Site Catalyst, Google Analytics, or similar tools)
•    Experience in ATG platform & Endeca is a plus
•    Strong prioritization skills & proven ability to successfully handle multiple tasks
•    Strong analytical, oral & written communication skills
•    Proven capability of developing, communicating and executing strategic plans
•    Aptitude with learning new tools, developing strategies for use and building and executing plans to use tools to support business needs.
•    Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively in order to solve problems
•    Excellent planning & follow-up skills, including the ability to meet aggressive deadlines
•    Proven ability to collaborate & establish strong working relationships with cross-functional partners
•    Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment & work efficiently under pressure
•    Passion for the eCommerce business and a desire to contribute to the growth and evolution of DSW 
•    Uses business knowledge, critical thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
•    Must be a self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and efficiently, with strong attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
•    2-3 years of merchandising or digital experience 
•    Experience with the ATG platform, Experience Manager, or equivlant ecommerce platforms
•    PC proficient in MS office suite – including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

 

Education:
•    Bachelor's Degree
