The Lead QA Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of existing automated test frameworks and test suites where responsibility lands both in technical execution but also in leadership as part of guiding teams towards business objectives, operational excellence, and general team success.  This position requires the ability to work in an agile, fast paced environment and excellent verbal communication abilities. This position reports to the Manager, Digital Applications Validation and Delivery and has no direct reports.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design the intake process of work into the automation team ensure the proper transition of manual test cases in a prioritized order
  • Ensure proper communication is in place for automation test results as a part of the project test cycle
  • Lead by example other technical resources to develop configurable and maintainable automated test scripts according to coding standards and software development best practices
  • Define test cases to be automated including providing the data input and validation points
  • Ensure automated test cases meet defined requirements
  • Create and maintain test data to drive the automated scripts
  • Configure and maintain the automation test lab, enabling the capability to execute simultaneous runs of automated tests across multiple environments using multiple browsers/platforms
  • Design, develop, maintain and extend the automation scripts on responsive architectures and mobile devices
  • Debug and diagnose failed scripts to determine if software defects have been introduced and write detailed defect reports when appropriate
  • Perform maintenance on scripts when new features are introduced
  • Write SQL for querying of databases
  • Participate in user story analysis and identify requirement and acceptance criteria gaps
  • Document design and development processes, coding standards, and onboarding/training material
  • Provide assistance to other automation engineers
  • Report timely and accurate status to management
  • Work cross-functionally with QA team members, software developers, network engineers, and other project team members
  • Work independently and manage own deliverables to ensure deadlines are met; ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively
    Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Solid understanding and practical experience within the Agile SDLC, with particular emphasis on Continuous Integration
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Expertise in analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving complex issues
    Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience working within Quality Assurance with a minimum of 2 years as an automated script developer
  • Experience in automation tools and frameworks like Ranorex, XCTest, Appium, Selenium, Jenkins
  • Experience with SQL programming and database technologies
  • Experience with Atlassian’s suite of products (Jira, Stash, Confluence, etc.)
  • Experience with any defect tracking systems, test management systems, version control systems (emphasis on Git), and configuration management systems
  • Expertise in analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving complex issues
  • Experience with working with remote and offshore resources a plus
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and understanding of retail industry is a plus
  • Strong programming fundamentals in object-oriented languages similar but not limited to C#, Java, or Ruby
  • B.S. Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience
