Infrastructure Architects are responsible for ensuring the technical direction of applications and solutions both within and across business area portfolios and are strongly aligned with the business strategy. Their skills span Technical and Enterprise architecture and they may work on complex deliverables or architecting a new Enterprise asset.  In both cases, their role is to ensure strategic objectives are met and that they provide the link between the enterprise architecture strategy, technology roadmap and the delivery teams.  Architects ensure strategic enterprise architecture is realized and informed by the lessons learned from prior solutions.


The Infrastructure Enterprise Architect is well rounded with broad skills in the majority of the Infrastructure areas. The role will support the technical SME’s in the areas of infrastructure to collect all technology into a unified solution view within operations, support and designs.  The position will report to the Manager, Infrastructure Solutions and has no direct reports.


Essential job functions

  • Knowledge of traditional and modern datacenter models, including all technology services (network, storage, compute, security, database, desktop, etc.) 
  • Strong understanding of cloud based services, inclusive of public and private connection deployment models, including infrastructure, platform and software services
  • Knowledge of retail application, respective infrastructure landscapes and complexities associated with the needs of a retail organization
  • Proven record of creating strategic road maps, reference architectures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the technology adoption lifecycle of all infrastructure solutions from current state to future state, including high-level action plans to fully realize the technology capabilities within identified use cases
  • Ensures strategic fit of solutions with overall enterprise architecture and agreed technology standards
  • Participate in architectural and roadmap activities with cross functional domains to gain alignment in the overall IT roadmap and DSW Vision
  • Collaborate and foster teamwork with within project, support and operation teams translating business needs into value add solutions
  • Research, design and advocate new technologies, architectures, and infrastructure processes to support the enterprise, its customers, business partners and vendors
  • Maintain alignment of security governance, risk management, project work streams, and portfolio management through collaboration and team work with various infrastructure SME’s
  • Responsible for architecting approved solutions that provide value add for the business, are economically feasible, scalable, highly available, and delivered in a timely manner
  • Work with internal and external business partners to maintain alignment through exemplary communication
  • Enabling business goal realization through evaluation, assessment and comparison of emergent technology. This may involve prototyping and proof of concept work, as well as in-depth vendor engagement

Required competencies and skills

  • 10+ years in IT Infrastructure and strong understanding of retail applications
  • Experience in Network, Server, Storage, Database administration, engineering and design
  • Previous project solution architecture experience
  • Infrastructure and Operations leadership experience including strong leadership skills, excellent analytical and technical skills, influencing without authority, and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand, design and define strategy and execution of strategy and tasks
  • Ability to translate the business and application needs into solution architecture requirements and design
  • Has a good appreciation of risk management, change management, configuration management, reliability and safety methods and the use of metrics
  • Combines technical competence with business and commercial acumen and mature communications skills. Strong communication skills to both technical and business audiences
  • Possesses some knowledge of all types of infrastructure systems and detailed knowledge of more than one
  • Proven track record for thinking beyond current-state technology issues and also integrating technologies for complete solutions across the enterprise infrastructure
  • Ability to provide objective and impartial technology, platform, tooling assessments and recommendations, ensures compatibility with strategic technology backlog at all times
  • Is passionate about technology, and has interest in emerging tools, trends and techniques across the industry
