The DMM leads buying teams responsible for the assortment architecture and selection of product, with a high-level of financial accountability. This role will utilize insights from marketing to build the merchant strategy, ultimately exceeding the financial goals for the upcoming year.  This role reports to SVP/GMM.

 

 

ASSORTMENT

  • Develop and lead merchandise strategy to deliver category sales and margin objectives - merchandise mix, brand, pricing, seasonality, channel and reposition the assortment strategy
  • Evaluate and anticipate market trends in collaboration with Trend Director
  • Strategize opportunities to build a leading athletic and men's assortment within the DSW segment
  • Research new vendors and merchandise categories
  • Manage key vendor relationships, including Senior Executive- CEO, President
  • Lead seasonal style and line review presentations
  • Superior negotiation skills

     

    LEADING & MOTIVATING

  • Can recruit, and mentor/develop high level talent, and build succession plans
  • Supervises buying teams for multiple product categories- directly responsible for Senior Buyers & Buyers
  • Organizes and delegates work aligned with company objectives
  • Encourages innovation and leads change
  • Works cross-functionally to build marketing and visual merchandising to drive customer communication

    FINANCIAL

  • Participate in development of Long Range Plans and Strategic Plan Sessions
  • Margin Owner- Sales, IMU, MD- consistently deliver sustainable results
  • Collaborate with Merchandise Planning & Assortment Planning to manage both pre-season and in-season forecasts
  • Work cross-functionally with Store Planning & Allocation to deliver merchandise strategy in Store, and Online Merchandising to maximize online sales

     

Qualifications:

 

  • 12-15+ years merchant experience
  • Leads with DSW Values; Passion, Accountability, Collaboration, Humility
  •  High degree of analytical and negotiating skills
  •  Strong verbal and written communications skills
  •  Solid coaching/mentoring skills; strong leader of others
  •  Seeks out partners to hindsight; drives continuous improvement
  •  Has strong track record developing and promoting talent
  •  Creates long term vision for category/categories supporting overall company strategy
  •  B.S. Degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing or Business or equivalent experience
