Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
General Summary
Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will assume a significant role to ensure we are building and supporting an increasingly diverse community and fostering an inclusive culture. The position will influence company strategies, leveraging current operational, merchandising, and marketing perspectives and make recommendations for changes which incorporate changing demographics. The Director, DEI also provides strategic influence and counsel to the organization’s executive team, leadership, and the Board of Directors on diversity-related issues. The role will also guide the organization on identification and implementation of inclusion training and programs, alignment and support of business resource groups, and a targeted and intentional approach to diverse recruiting, retention, and development for advancement at all levels of our field and home office population. This position will have support from the Diversity Council to execute strategies and programs across the organization.
Reports to: SVP Human Resources
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Elevate and maximize current DBI DEI strategy organizationally, identifying actions, key metrics and accountabilities to meet our goals
• Partner with business leaders, HR and other key stakeholders to develop a business-focused, global, coordinated Diversity and Inclusion programing and operationalize the strategy into a concrete working plan
• Monitor developments in diversity and inclusion practices and expectations of key stakeholders (customers, investors, employees) and make recommendations to SVP HR, CEO as executive D&I sponsors
• Support senior leadership with development and implementation of corporate DE&I strategies, including recruitment, performance management, leadership development, employee engagement and retention
• Serve as a subject matter expert and partner to the business by continuously analyzing and presenting relevant talent demographics, monitoring data trends and providing insights into the data collected
• Lead and provide guidance to business resource groups and community interest groups and evolve to positively impact the business through effective leadership, engagement, and program management; find ways to include field , DC and international associates
• Identify, build, and sustain community partnerships to enable corporate diversity and inclusion projects/plans/initiatives and business strategies as approved
• Raise awareness and engage others to build an inclusive workforce and an ally-ship focused culture
• Research external inclusion developments, opportunities, and trends and use to drive ideation to support future product, marketing, and messaging decisions
• Design and implement an infrastructure (tools, templates, databases and dashboards) to embed D&I into business KPI’s and processes
• Partner with recruiting to develop and deploy a cutting-edge workforce strategy; identify and implement strategic best practices to develop our diversity pipeline
• Collaborate with Learning & Development to identify, create and implement deeper diversity and inclusion training programs; ensure existing and new training programs are inclusive
• Guide leaders regarding mentorship, development, retention, and promotion of our diverse associates
• Develop and communicate internal and external content strategy to promote D&I activities, initiatives, and messages for both the internal audience and for recruiting purposes
• Develop analytical tools and methods to measure the effectiveness of the diversity strategy; analyze D&I progress for organizational health and recommend actions for strengthening D&I across the organization
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Demonstrated success in developing cutting edge strategy and driving process improvements with regard to diversity and inclusion issues in the workplace
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills across levels, with an ability to persuade and influence, and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment
• Confident in facilitating, presenting and speaking to both internal and external audiences
• Proven track record of leading company-wide initiatives with multiple stakeholders
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven willingness and ability to be hands-on and work in a fast-paced environment
• Experienced in change management and creating alignment with a diverse set of employees
• Self-sufficient and capable of liaising with the leadership team, including comfortability building and delivering executive-level presentations
Experience:
• At least 10+ years of prior business experience with 5 years of experience as a D&I professional
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree a plus
• Retail, marketing or customer insights experience a plus
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required
