General Summary: Supports the creation and execution of the merchandise strategy for assigned department.  This position supplies competitive intelligence, trend observations and style analysis to the buying office.  This position also takes partial responsibility for a sub class with Buyer’s full supervision.  The role partners with Planning and Marketing teams to drive sales; synthesizes information, reaches conclusions and suggests a course of action.

 

Reports to: Buyer/Sr. Buyer

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes selling reports and recommends actions
  • Provides analysis to Buyer, detailing actions to respond to current business trends
  • Manages manual Open To Buy (OTB) changes
  • Works in Assortment Planning (AP) system managing appropriate product attributes
  • Localizes assortment by store group, using appropriate sales trend information
  • Supplies competitive intelligence, trend observations and style analysis to Buyer
  • Communicates with Purchase Order Management (POM)  to track ship and delivery, identifies ship issues and makes recommendations to resolve
  • Works cross functionally with Planning team to align on distribution strategy, executes both preseason and in season strategy, and ensures key item deliveries are appropriate and timely
  • Develops strategy and presents product assortment to leadership
  • Prepares for and attends vendor appointments, presents strategy to get the best assortment selections
  • Processes closeout orders including competitive analysis, suggested cost and retail, and OTB management
  • Determines pricing for incoming orders and drop ship products, executes accordingly
  • Collaborates with Trend team on marketing selection and sample ordering
  • Ensures in-season product is on time and aligns with marketing timing
  • Participates in and documents information in monthly and quarterly product hind sights
  • Works with Buyer and Associate Buyer to develop the annual and seasonal financial plans

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Previous retail experience a plus

 

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing or Business-related field
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
  • Ability to learn Jesta, JDA Assortment Planning and other merchant computer-based tools
